Vice President Lynda Gilbert, Ph.D.
Lynda Gilbert, Ph.D., is Vice President for Financial Affairs and Treasurer for The University of Alabama. She joined the University in this position on August 1, 2005. In this current role at UA, she has full responsibility for the Office for Financial Affairs including investment management, budgeting, financial accounting and reporting, and human resources. She also oversees the auxiliary services, land management, business services, maintenance, construction, public safety, and risk management areas.
Previously Dr. Gilbert served as Vice Chancellor for Financial Affairs for The University of Alabama System. She joined the UA System on November 17, 2003. In this capacity Dr. Gilbert was responsible for the management of the pooled endowment funds and other System-wide accounts. She worked closely with the campuses in coordinating the annual legislative funding requests and developing the annual operating budget. As Vice Chancellor, she also served as director of the System’s debt management program and oversaw facilities planning and construction activities. Additionally, she was the principal advisor to the Chancellor, the Board of Trustees, and the campus Presidents on financial policy and management issues.
Prior to joining The University of Alabama System Dr. Gilbert was Vice President for Fiscal Affairs at Texas Tech University. In that position Dr. Gilbert was responsible for the human resources, operational and business affairs of the university. Previously, Dr. Gilbert held similar positions with the University of Southern Mississippi and the University of Arkansas, Division of Agriculture. She spent sixteen years on the financial affairs staff at Texas A&M University.
Dr. Gilbert received her bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M in 1975 and later earned a master’s degree in accounting there in 1983. Her Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration with an emphasis on higher education finance was earned at Texas A&M University in 1998. She is a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Government Financial Manager and serves on the Executive Committee of the Council of Business Affairs of the National Association of State Colleges and Land Grant Universities (NASULGC).
